Quick answer
Brew mint green tea by steeping one tea temple in water heated to 175°F for 2-3 minutes for a refreshing caffeine boost.
Why Mint Green Tea Works for a Caffeine Boost
Mint green tea combines the gentle energy lift of green tea with the cooling, refreshing taste of mint. This makes it an excellent choice for a midday pick-me-up without the jitters often associated with coffee.
The mint also helps mask any bitterness in green tea, making it more palatable for those who find pure green tea too grassy or astringent.
Steps to Brew the Perfect Cup
- Heat the water: Heat fresh, filtered water to 175°F (80°C). Do not use boiling water, as it will scorch the green tea leaves and create a bitter taste. If you don't have a thermometer, bring water to a boil and let it cool for 30 seconds.
- Steep the tea temple: Place one mint green tea temple in your cup and pour the hot water over it. Let it steep for exactly 2-3 minutes. Steeping longer than 3 minutes can extract too much bitterness from the green tea leaves.
- Remove and enjoy: Remove the tea temple and discard. If desired, add a touch of honey or a slice of lemon to enhance the minty freshness. Do not squeeze the temple when removing — that releases bitter tannins into your cup.
